.
The Hightops headed to Lonesome Oak Studios in Pine Bluff, AR mid Feb. 2006 to began
recording their new project entitled "Going Home". A collection of 8 original David Johnson, 2 Johnson/Petty
tunes and 2 written by Drummer Jim McCoy. Different from Steppin' Out this album leans toward a more Southern Rock influence.
David Johnson (guitar/vocals) honed his chops in Arkansas early
rock & roll days, playing with all the seminal players in the northeast area, including the boys of Black Oak Arkansas. His musical
travels took him to Texas where he settled in for awhile to share venues and jam with the likes of Kim Wilson, Jimmy Vaughn,
Luanne Barton, Billy Gibbons, Stevie
Ray Vaughan, Edgar Winter, and Roy Head. David can be found on stage with Aligator recording
artist Michael Burks whenever Michael is in town. David can pull out hundreds of guitar sounds and licks, many of which highlight
the unique arrangements that THE FABULOUS HIGHTOPS are known for.
Al Halpin (guitar) came to Arkansas by way
of New York, where he played a lot of the same clubs that David had
toured through and has shared the stage with Savoy Brown, FogHat & Peter Frampton . His guitar and slide guitar sound
is reminiscent of the Chicago/New York brand
of blues.
James (J.P.) Petty (bass) is a recent import from Texas. He and
David played together in blues bands throughout Texas, and have been songwriting
partners for many years. JP has been playing in Houston for about a hundred years, and has shared the stage with Molly Hatchett,
Edgar Winter, Roy Head & Marshall Tucker.
Big Frank O'brien (Hammond B-3) adds the smooth sound of the blues with his Allman Bros. influenced B-3 sounds.
Jim "Bonze" McCoy
Jim has played
everything from blues, country, metal, rock, even in church over the years. The players I have played with, have taught
me more about music and myself then I ever thought possible. From Code Blue, Over Drive, Judge Parker, Molly Hatchet, and
Smiley Died to name a few. Music is "me" , I'm not the music. I have to have that breathe of air everyday I wake.
